We only had 4 hours to spare for the fair today. I didn’t think it would be enough time. My daughter thought it would be too much time. We’d see……
The Bully
From the moment I heard that my son had been hit by a kid three times bigger than him all reasoning had gone out the window. I was fuming mad. I was seeing red. And I wanted to take this kid’s head and twist it till it popped off his shoulders like a grape. He wanted to touch my kid? He was about to find out what it was like to deal with an angry mother protective of her son.
Infant Potty Training
As much as I adore babies, I was pretty frazzled at the thought of additional years of diapers by the time my third son was born. “There has to be another way!” I thought. (Article by Laurie Boucke)
Clinginess in 8 year olds
“Mom? Mom?!?” my 8 year old son called from downstairs. “I’m right here,” I called from my computer. “Ok,” he said. It was his usual check in. He just needed to make sure that I was still in the house and hadn’t snuck off and abandoned him. And in 10 minutes, he would do it again.
Potty Training
Potty training is probably one of the most stressful times of the toddler years. I couldn’t wait to get both of my kids out of diapers. They are expensive, they are stinky, they are tedious…. And let’s face it, when little Tommy in the playgroup is wearing big boy underwear, we want our toddler to be wearing big kid underwear too. It’s not like it’s a competition. But let’s face it. It totally is.
Talking about Sex
There was a letter recently in Dear Abby written by a mother of a 15 year old girl. This 15 year old girl had contracted the Herpes virus. At 15. She is now saddled with a disease that has no cure. And at such a young age, her sex life as she knows it is forever changed.
Cool Activities to Do With Your Kids This Summer
We are two moms, best friends - each with two kids very close in age, two 5-year-olds and two 3-year-olds, also known as the "bigs" and the "littles." At the beginning of the summer we made a list of fun activities that we wanted to do with the kids. Now that the summer is half over, we are reviewing our list and deciding what else we want to do before the "bigs" start kindergarten. Since we are fortunate to live in Sonoma County making our list was easy; there are so many fun activities right out our back door.
Meet Cathe!
Cathe is incredibly creative! I spent a long time poring over her entries and got lost in the different ideas she had for creating projects to just straight up passing the time.
Camp, part 2
But then there are those campers that aren’t what we expect them to be. One difficult camper broke a bathroom door, threw rocks towards other campers, and told a staffer to “F- off”. And we all wanted to throttle him.
Camp, part 1
There's something about camp. You get there, and the dust overwhelms you. You get eaten alive by mosquitoes that will only leave you alone after you smell like a saturated pine cone, and biting flies that will eat you no matter what. If you have allergies (and I do), your face will feel like it will fall off by the third day. You hike up a hill to get somewhere. You hike up a hill to get back. You have to wait in line for a shower, and you're not guaranteed hot water. The dining hall smells not so faintly of sour milk. The salad is served lunch and dinner, and looks slightly brown by the 7th day. And I think I'll be fine if I don't eat red jello until next year. We go to bed late and wake up way too early, and are completely sleep deprived by the end of camp. The pool is ice cold and crowded, and my feet are torn up from the rough bottom, not to mention the blisters from all that hiking.... And still, I come back every year.
