Hey baby, what’s your sign?

It may not be what you think. 3,000 years ago the zodiac signs were created by the Babylonians. Depending on which constellation the sun was in on the day a baby was born depicted which astrological sign they fell under. Thing is, the earth’s tilt has changed in those 3,000 years, yet our zodiac calendar hasn’t changed in accordance.  Sp we’re going off of sun patterns from 3,000 years ago, and not from today. Even more confusing? There is actually a 13th sign that was omitted from the zodiac calendar – Ophiuchus (pronounced OFF-ee-YOO-kuss). The Babylonians wanted only 12 signs per year even though there were 13 constellations that the sun travelled through in an earth year. But a true zodiac calendar would include all 13 signs.

While I wouldn’t say that I follow the zodiac religiously, I do find interest in reading up about my sign and how my characteristics match. Now I feel like a bit of my identity has been lost. Not only am I no longer a Sagittarius (birthday is in December), I’m actually a sign I’ve never heard of with mysterious qualities.

How the heck am I going to know if there’s an all clear for shopping???

At any rate, it’s not like the zodiac calendar is going to change any time soon. This discovery has been known since 500 BC, but the calendar has never reflected it. However, in case you’d like to know which sign you and your children fall under, here’s the corrected calendar according to the alignment of the sun and earth in today’s time.

Capricorn: Jan. 20 – Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 – March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18- May 13
Taurus: May 13- June 21
Gemini: June 21- July 20
Cancer: July 20- Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10- Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16- Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30- Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23- Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29- Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17- Jan. 20

Anyone falling under the 13th sign of Ophiuchus may possess some interesting qualities – like being a seeker of peace and harmony, attracter of good luck, and an interpreter of dreams (click HERE to learn more about this forgotten sign of the zodiac).

Do you follow horoscopes and astrological signs? Will you be following your new sign? Does this stress you out a little???

  1. As if this weren’t confusing enough, your sign may or may not have changed.

If you follow Western astrology (which follows the zodiac) that has its signs fixed to the seasons, your sign has NOT changed. But if you follow astrology that is based on constellations, then you have a new sign.

For those saying that this only refers to people born after 2007 (or born this year, as others have stated), as far as I can tell that’s a farce. This revelation is actually hundreds of years old.

Does that make it clearer? Yeah, not to me either. I think I’ll just stay a Sag.

  2. Yeah — I’m really amused by how worked up everyone is getting over this as if it is a sudden, new thing…when in fact, it has been the case for thousands of years at this point. I keep seeing people comment ‘oh, it only applies to people born THIS year’…which misses the whole point.
